Desription

The theme of the summer school is 'Security and Privacy in Digital Life' focuses on the ways of applying the currently available security and privacy techniques in digital society and improving the everyday life and business activities.

The course emphasizes multi-disciplinarity with attention to specific components on key issues related to S&P including data source authentication, data integrity, data confidentiality, and digital identity management; selected ICT application areas where S&P is considered to be of great importance such as, e-commerce, e-voting, e-health and user profiling; conceptualization of usability and technical realization; and commercialization (marketing plan and business realization) of their ideas.

The first week will focus on the following themes: Privacy-Aware & Secure Identity Management; Privacy & Security in e-Commerce; Privacy & Security in e-Voting; Privacy & Security in e-Health; Privacy in Smart Spaces, and Privacy-Aware User Profiling. Frontal lectures will be followed by specific tutorials, study-visits to selected enterprises and start-ups, and group work in order to let the students connect theory with practice, interact with one another, and start focusing on team work for drafting a project.

Two social events will be organized: one the arrival day in Trento 27/07/2014 and the other on the last day of the summer school 08/08/2014. Study visits are organzied for the participating students. The EIT ICT Labs students will visit the Security Operations Center of Poste Italiane, while the non-EIT ICT Labs students will be visiting the Telecom Lab to see how the S&P challenges are addressed by these two important stakeholders.

The second week will focus on drafting the business plan and preparing the pitch presentations by the team work on the selected theme, accompanied with interactive teaching and tutoring on both business and technical aspects. Each student group will work on a business case and develop a project proposal on ICT applications (products or services) for a particular thematic challenge presented in the first week.
Through team working, students will also perform market studies, analyse competitors, and explore social and usability aspects of the proposed project. Each student group will jointly present their project to the evaluation panel, and the winning group, which proposed and presented the best selected project, will be offered a study visit to one of the EIT ICT Labs Nodes or the associated companies.
